This stick door panel is from Jaisalmer area in Rajasthan, Northern India and dates to the 19th century. They were used in the buildings of the desert dwelling tribes which were made of mud and clay. There's remains of green paint in these doors. This panel is unusually tall for a Jaisalmer stick door.
Wood is very scarce in the desert & doors, window shutters and furniture were made of sticks harvested from the Kair tree (Capparis decidua). The sticks are then riveted together with iron fittings. Hung on a wall they make stunning and unique pieces of wall art.
